You only need the certificates for the specific quotas you actually claim. A general-category candidate with no reservation needs just the marksheets and Transfer Certificate.
Why "digitally signed e-certificate" matters
This is where most students get stuck. Tamil Nadu now expects reservation certificates — especially community and nativity — as digitally signed electronic certificates, not old handwritten or physical ones. A physical certificate from years ago may simply not be accepted, and getting the digital version issued through the e-Sevai system can take days. Make every name and date match
Your name and date of birth must read the same across your 10th marksheet, 12th marksheet and every certificate. "R. Kavya", "Kavya R" and "Kavya" are treated as different names at verification. If your community certificate spells your name differently from your marksheet, fix the certificate before counselling — a mismatch can stall your seat at the worst possible moment. How certificate verification works
Verification is largely online now: you upload scanned documents when you register and fill choices, and they are checked against your claims. Uploads are usually accepted in JPG, JPEG or PNG format, each file between roughly 150 KB and 1 MB, so scan clearly and compress if needed. In some cases you may be asked to attend a Tamil Nadu Facilitation Centre (TFC) for physical verification, particularly if a document needs a closer look. Keep the originals ready throughout counselling — you will present them at the college when you finally report for admission, and any gap between your uploaded copy and the original can cost you the seat.
Special reservation categories
If you are claiming a special reservation — ex-servicemen ward, differently-abled (with a valid disability certificate), eminent sportsperson, or similar — you need the specific supporting proof for that category in addition to the core documents. These claims are checked strictly, so carry both the certificate and any supporting evidence. If you hold a UDID disability certificate, keep it ready in digital form.
Put it together before your slot
The practical rule is simple: assemble everything before your rank-wise counselling window, not during it. Have your marksheets and Transfer Certificate scanned, your reservation e-certificates issued and downloaded, and every name checked against your marksheet. Scanning and uploading without errors
A surprising number of verification delays are purely technical, not about the documents themselves. Scan each certificate in good light so both the text and the digital-signature panel are fully legible; a blurry or cropped scan gets rejected even when the certificate is perfectly valid. Save each file within the 150 KB to 1 MB range in JPG, JPEG or PNG, and if a scan is too large reduce the resolution rather than cropping out part of the page. Name your files clearly so you upload the right document to the right field, and double-check that the community certificate you upload is the permanent one, not a temporary or school-issued slip. Finally, upload well before any deadline: portals slow down under last-minute load, and a failed upload at the eleventh hour is an avoidable way to lose time you do not have.
