To track any e-Sevai certificate you only need one thing: your application number. It's printed on the acknowledgement slip you got when you applied, whether you applied online or at an e-Sevai centre. To download the finished certificate you'll also need your CAN login.
How to check the status — step by step
- Open the TN e-Sevai portal.
- Go to the certificate / application status option (also reachable from the CAN dashboard after login).
- Enter your e-Sevai application number and submit.

- When it shows approved, log in with your CAN, open the application and download the digitally signed PDF.

How long it takes
Most revenue certificates — income, community, nativity — are issued within about 15 to 30 days after the VAO/RI field verification, though it varies by certificate type and taluk workload. Simpler services can be faster. If it's stuck well beyond 30 days, follow up at the taluk office or the e-Sevai centre where you applied.
When the status is "rejected"
A rejection isn't the end — the portal usually shows the reason, and it's most often a missing or mismatched document (name spelling, address proof, or an unclear upload). Fix the specific issue and re-apply. If the reason isn't clear, the e-Sevai centre or the taluk office can tell you exactly what was flagged.
Why applications get delayed
If your status sits at "pending" or "with VAO" longer than you expected, it's usually one of a few ordinary reasons rather than a lost application. The most common is the field enquiry: revenue certificates need a Village Administrative Officer to verify your details in person, and that step queues behind every other applicant in the taluk. Others include a document mismatch the officer wants clarified, a seasonal rush (admission and scholarship season floods the system), or the portal being under maintenance. None of these need panic — but if it's clearly stuck beyond the normal 15–30 days, a polite follow-up at the taluk office or the e-Sevai centre where you applied usually moves it.
Tracking online vs at the e-Sevai centre
If you applied online with your own CAN login, tracking is entirely self-service — you check the status page and download the certificate yourself when it's approved. If you applied through an operator at an e-Sevai centre, you can still track with the application number on the acknowledgement slip, but the finished certificate may be collected from the same centre, or downloaded once it's linked to your CAN. Either way, hold on to that acknowledgement slip — without the application number, tracking and re-downloading both become much harder.
Downloading and re-downloading your certificate
Once approved, the certificate lives in your CAN account. You can log in and download it again any time — useful if you lose the copy. The PDF is digitally signed, so a downloaded copy is a valid original; you don't need to visit an office for a reprint.
If the portal is down when you try to check
The e-Sevai portal sometimes shows a maintenance message or won't load your status, especially during peak admission and scholarship season or late at night. This doesn't affect your application — the request is already logged against your application number. If you can't check, wait a few hours and try again, ideally during working hours when the system is more stable. If it stays down for a day or more and you have a deadline, the e-Sevai centre where you applied can usually look up the status on the operator system, and the taluk office can confirm where your file is in the process. Keep your application number and CAN handy for either route.
