What TN e-Sevai is

TN e-Sevai, run by the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA), is the state's one-stop portal for government-to-citizen services. Instead of visiting different department offices, you apply online — or at any of the 10,000+ e-Sevai centres — for certificates and services across Revenue, Social Welfare, TNEB, Agriculture and Motor Vehicles. It's the front door to almost every routine government document a Tamil Nadu resident needs.

How to log in (and register first time)

  1. Go to tnesevai.tn.gov.in and click Citizen Login.
  2. Returning user: sign in with your user ID and password.
  3. New user: click Sign Up, create a user ID and password, and verify your mobile with an OTP.
  4. After logging in, register your CAN (Citizen Access Number) — a one-time step.

The CAN is the key to everything: it stores your Aadhaar, name and address once, so you never re-type them. See our full CAN registration guide if you haven't created yours yet.

How applying works (the common flow)

Almost every e-Sevai certificate follows the same steps, so once you've done one, the rest are easy:

  1. Log in with your CAN.
  2. Open Services → Department Wise → Revenue Department and pick the certificate (each has a REV code, e.g. REV-101 Community, REV-104 First Graduate).
  3. Fill and upload the required documents (clear scans).
  4. Pay the small service fee online.
  5. Track and download the digitally signed certificate once verified.

How to check application status

After applying, you'll want to follow it up. Log in to tnesevai.tn.gov.in, open Application Status / Check Status, and enter your application or transaction number to see the stage. Once approved, download the certificate directly — no return trip to the office. Our status-check guide walks through it in detail.

Online or at an e-Sevai centre?

Self-service onlineAnyone comfortable filling forms and uploading scans
e-Sevai / CSC centreThose who'd rather an operator apply — a small service charge applies

Both reach the same system and produce the same certificate. If you don't have a scanner, the centre route is simpler — the operator handles the uploads.

Helpline and support

For portal or application issues, the TNeGA helpline is 18004256000 (toll free). Keep your CAN and application number handy when you call, as they'll ask for them to look up your case.
