Attendance Percentage Calculator — 75% Rule (Classes You Can Miss)

July 04, 2026

Free attendance calculator for the common 75% rule (works for any required percentage). Educational tool — check your institution's exact policy.

Quick answer: Attendance % = (classes attended ÷ classes held) × 100. To keep the usual 75%, you can miss at most 25% of the term's total classes. If you're already below 75%, the extra classes you must attend in a row = (0.75 × held − attended) ÷ 0.25, rounded up. Enter your numbers below.

Key takeaways
  • Attendance % = (attended ÷ held) × 100.
  • For 75%, you can miss at most 25% of the term's total classes.
  • Below 75%? Attend (0.75×held − attended) ÷ 0.25 classes in a row (rounded up).
  • Enter the term total to see how many you can still skip overall.
  • Works for any threshold — change the required % box.

How attendance percentage works

Your attendance percentage is just the share of held classes you actually attended:

Attendance % = (classes attended ÷ classes held) × 100

So 68 attended out of 80 held = 85%. Most colleges and universities require a minimum of 75% to sit exams, though some set it higher — always confirm your own institution's rule.

"How many classes can I skip?"

If you know the total classes for the term, the most you can be absent is 25% of that total (for a 75% rule). Subtract what you've already missed to get how many you can still safely skip. Example: a 120-class term allows 30 absences; if you've missed 12, you can still skip 18 more.

"How many must I attend to recover?"

If you've slipped below 75%, attending future classes pulls the percentage back up. The number you must attend in a row is:

Classes needed = (0.75 × held − attended) ÷ 0.25, rounded up

The calculator figures this out for you and, if you enter the term total, also tells you how many more you can miss overall.
