The exam pattern
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| Prelims | 200 questions, 300 marks, 3 hours |
| Marks per question | 1.5 |
| Negative marking | None |
| Main written exam | Descriptive (for Interview posts) |
A worked example
150 correct out of 200: marks = 150 × 1.5 = 225 / 300 (75%). Because there is no negative marking, attempting every question can only help.
How selection works
For Interview posts, selection is based on prelims + main written + interview; for non-interview posts, on the written stage(s). Final marks are normalised and a cut-off is fixed by category. Your raw prelims score is the first filter to reach the mains, so maximise attempts.
Preparation tip
With no negative marking, leave nothing blank — an educated guess has only upside. Focus revision on high-weight areas (general studies, aptitude and Tamil eligibility) and practise previous years' papers under timed conditions to build speed.
