Updated for 2026 · How to check your Tamil Nadu electricity bill status and pay it online — TANGEDCO / TNPDCL.
- Check and pay at tnebnet.org — the official TNPDCL/TANGEDCO portal.
- You need your consumer (service connection) number and region code from the bill.
- Quick Pay needs no login — good for a single payment.
- Pay by UPI, QR, card or net banking; keep the receipt.
- The board is now TNPDCL; the mobile app does the same job as the website.
Find your consumer number first
Everything starts with your service connection number — usually called the consumer number. It is printed at the top of every electricity bill, alongside a short region code. You need both to check status or pay, so keep an old bill handy the first time. Once you have paid online once, the portal remembers the details for next time.
How to check your bill status
2. Open Bill Status under Online Services.
3. Enter your service connection / consumer number and registered mobile.
4. View the bill amount, due date and payment status, and download the bill if you need a copy.
How to pay online
The fastest route is Quick Pay, which needs no account.
| Step | What you do |
|---|---|
| 1 | On tnebnet.org, choose Online Bill Payment → Quick Pay |
| 2 | Enter your consumer number and region code from the bill |
| 3 | Enter your email and mobile, and the captcha |
| 4 | Pay by UPI, QR, debit/credit card or net banking |
| 5 | Save the receipt / note the transaction reference |
Do not pay twice straight away. Bank confirmations to the board can take a little time — check the Bill Status page again after a few hours, and keep your bank transaction reference. If it is still unpaid after a day, contact TNPDCL with that reference rather than paying again, or you will be chasing a refund.
The mobile app and smart meters
TNPDCL/TANGEDCO also has a mobile app that does the same status-check and payment on your phone, and a separate smart-meter app for consumers who have a smart meter installed. For most households the website Quick Pay is simplest; the app is handy if you pay every cycle and want your history in one place.
A note on the name change
You may see both TANGEDCO and TNPDCL used. Tamil Nadu restructured its power utility, and distribution — the part that sends your bill — is now handled by TNPDCL (Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited). The consumer number, the portal and the payment process are unchanged, so an old bill and old bookmarks still work. Understanding your bill
Two numbers on the bill do all the work: the consumer (service connection) number that identifies your connection, and the region code that tells the system which distribution circle you fall under. The bill also shows your meter reading, the units consumed, the amount and the due date. Domestic connections are billed on a slab basis, so the more units you use in a cycle, the higher the rate on the upper units — which is why a heavy-use month can cost more than proportionally.
Billing cycle and due dates
Domestic (LT) bills in Tamil Nadu are usually raised once every two months. Pay before the due date printed on the bill: late payment can attract a small charge, and prolonged non-payment risks disconnection. If you tend to forget, the mobile app and SMS alerts on your registered number are the simplest way to catch the due date each cycle. Paying a day or two early also avoids the last-minute portal load that builds up around common due dates.
New connection or a change of name
Checking and paying a bill assumes the connection is already in your name. If you have just moved, or the connection is still in a previous owner's or a relative's name, that is a separate process — a service request to transfer the connection or apply for a new one. Getting the connection into the correct name matters, because the registered mobile and name are what let you check status, receive alerts and raise complaints later.
Other ways to pay
The tnebnet.org portal is the official route, but the same bill can usually be paid through the TNPDCL mobile app, or through your bank's bill-pay or a UPI app's electricity biller by selecting TNPDCL/TANGEDCO and entering the consumer number. Whichever you use, the rule is the same: keep the transaction reference until the Bill Status page shows the payment cleared. That one habit saves you from double-paying and from disputes over whether a payment went through.
In short
Keep an old bill for the consumer number and region code, use Bill Status to check and Quick Pay to pay at tnebnet.org, and always save the transaction reference until the payment shows as cleared. Whether the bill says TANGEDCO or TNPDCL, it is the same connection and the same simple process.
