Mumbai University CGPA to percentage — what changed in 2026
If you studied at the University of Mumbai, you have probably searched how to turn your CGPA into a percentage for a job or higher-study application. There is an important update most calculators have not caught up with: Mumbai University repealed its CGPA-to-percentage formula with effect from 1 January 2026. For current students, the university now issues a marks-based certificate instead of a converted percentage. The old formula is still useful for back-calculating older (pre-2026) transcripts, which is exactly what the tool above does.
The Mumbai University formula (for pre-2026 transcripts)
The formula differs by course type, so pick the right one above:
| Course | CGPA to percentage |
|---|---|
| General degree (Arts, Science, Commerce, etc.) | Percentage = 7.1 × CGPA + 11 |
| Engineering | Percentage = 7.4 × CGPA + 12 |
Example (general): a CGPA of 8.5 gives 7.1 × 8.5 + 11 = 71.35%. Mumbai University rounded this up, so it was commonly shown as 72%.
SGPI, CGPA and the 7-point vs 10-point confusion
Mumbai uses the term SGPI (Semester Grade Performance Index) for what other universities call SGPA. Older Mumbai results used a 7-point CBSGS system where the percentage was simply your actual marks; later CBCS results use a 10-point CGPA, which is where the 7.1 × CGPA + 11 formula applies. This calculator works on the 10-point CBCS scale. If your marksheet shows grades out of 7, it is the older system and your percentage is your actual score, not a converted figure.
Mumbai University 10-point grade values

| A+ | 9 |
| A | 8 |
| B+ | 7 |
| B | 6 |
| C | 5 |
| D | 4 |
| F (Fail) | 0 |
