How to resize an image to passport or exact pixel size

Many forms ask for a photo or signature in exact pixel dimensions — a passport-size photo, a 200×230 image, or a small signature box. A normal phone photo is far too large and the wrong shape, so the upload fails or looks stretched. The tool above resizes any image to the exact width and height you need, then lets you download it. It runs entirely in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose your image.
  2. Pick a preset (passport, 200×230, signature) or choose Custom and type the width and height.
  3. Press Resize image, check the preview, and download.

Passport photo size in pixels

A standard Indian passport photo is 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm. In pixels that depends on the DPI (dots per inch):

DPIPixel size (3.5 x 4.5 cm)
300 DPI (print quality)413 x 531 px
200 DPI276 x 354 px
96 DPI (screen)132 x 170 px

For most online forms, 413 × 531 at 300 DPI is the safe choice. If a form names a different pixel size, use Custom and enter those numbers exactly.

Keep the photo from looking stretched

If your original image is a very different shape from the target, forcing it into the new dimensions can squash faces. To avoid this, crop your photo close to a 3.5:4.5 ratio first (head and shoulders, slight margin), then resize. A passport photo should show your full face, centred, on a plain light background.

File too large after resizing? Shrink it to the KB limit with our Image Compressor, then upload. (Set this to your Image Compressor URL.)
