E-Way Bill Validity Calculator
How e-way bill validity is calculated
An e-way bill is required to move goods worth more than ₹50,000. Its validity depends on the distance and the cargo type. If it expires before delivery, the consignment can be detained and penalised, so plan around it. The calculator above gives the validity in days.
The distance rule
| Cargo type | Validity |
|---|---|
| Regular cargo | 1 day per 200 km (round any part up) |
| Over-dimensional cargo | 1 day per 20 km (round any part up) |
How a day is counted
The first day ends at midnight of the day following generation; each further day is a full midnight-to-midnight block. The clock starts when Part B (vehicle details) is generated.
A worked example
520 km by regular truck: 520 / 200 = 2.6, rounded up = 3 days. Generated at 10 AM on the 1st, validity ends midnight of the 4th.
Other points
- Validity can be extended within 8 hours before or after expiry if goods are still in transit for valid reasons.
- An expired e-way bill in transit can lead to detention and penalty.
